Version 1.2 Officially Available!

Hey all!

First of all, I want to thank anyone and everyone who has played, streamed, rated, and given feedback on The Phoenix Project in the last 16 days since the contest judging period officially started. As is the case with these things, as soon as I hit submit -- bugs were found and things I wanted to change were made apparent. A full update is still forthcoming (expect to see version 2.0 sometime in September -- probably as soon as the rating period ends), but I wanted to drop the 1.2 update for anyone who wanted a very slightly less buggy version. The gameplay mechanics didn't change at all between 1.1 and 1.2 (this was to keep is as close to the original as possible for rating purposes), but fixed a few visual issues instead. Here's what was updated for 1.2:

  • The title cards no longer weirdly slide in from the side.
  • You are no longer blocked by a stool in Lab  A.
  • You can't walk on the walls in the Staff Room.
  • Light puzzle in Lab E can now be reset and quit.
  • The task list updates to remind you to go home at the end of the day.
  • Fixed a few typos in dialogue (but forgot the ones in the lab report...)
  • Some passability issues in Chapter 2.
  • The doubled / misleading "give up" button in the slide puzzle has been updated (though positioning is off now and the trigger is BELOW the center of the word).

KNOWN ISSUES / UPCOMING 1.3 FIXES

  • The first time you use Girl's Smack Barrage or Slaps of Pain attacks, the image showing key inputs is invisible, but appears every subsequent use.
  • Player sprite remains invisible if you (1) complete the slide puzzle (2) quit the slide puzzle and restart it -- this will also trigger the puzzle to autocomplete.
  • Better visibility for slide puzzle -- including an option to view the completed image on-screen while solving.
  • Battle balancing in chapter 2 -- especially with low-level fights for King Glitch.
  • More battle variety in chapter 2.
  • The possessed door in the east quadrant of chapter 2 will receive an exorcism.
  • More interactivity in chapter 1.
  • More NPC dialogue based on current progression.
  • Clearer tutorials for Scientist attack 2, attack 3, and Lights puzzle.
  • Various visual improvements and even more audio leveling.
